Read *Ask about travel, I've been around. Wanderings (PDF) All images on this site are: ***©Bradley S. Winer 2002 - 2008*** (Please contact me (winerb (at) hotmail (dot) com) for permission to use any images contained within bradbabo.com) July 28, 2008 I spent a manly week up in Maine with SF. Bertha sent us some waves to surf, we hung a window, ate lots of smoked meats, drank beer, mountain biked, canoed, etc. The main objective was a climb of Katahdin. In manly fashion, we completed an 11+ mile summit circuit that started at our campground, Roaring Brook, up the Helon Taylor trail to Pamola Peak, along the Knife Edge to Baxter Peak, dipped down to the Saddle, back up to Hamlin Peak, and down Hamlin Ridge to return to camp. The vast majority of the 'trail' consists of boulders, huge boulders, up, around, through, under, boulders, boulders, boulders, boulders, more boulders. The highlight was the Knife Edge - a 1.1 mile sawtooth spine ridge of bouldery peaks that required a bit of exhilarating free-climbing with lots of exposure. At one point, the trail narrows to a 2 ft. wide ledge with a 2000 ft. drop off. Manly. Baxter State Park is a gem. Gallery.

May 11, 2008 Camera died in February along with my computer. Back up with new and restored technology. I bought a Canon G9, so over the last 2-3 months I have been getting used to it. Gallery.
Mt. Washington took more than a physical toll. My camera was a frozen block of ice at the end of the day. It now sees a melty purple world. I really like this one, though:
So, after much research and consultation, (thanks DD and SM) I finally made a decision on a new camera - the Canon G9 is on its way. Can't wait. January 25 - 27, 2008 Friday night LV introduced us to Nicole Atkins and The Sea at the Bowery Ballroom. Nice chick music. Then Saturday I went to see Cornelius at Webster Hall. The visuals were amazing and he even played a theramin. Gallery. Sunday, I had a little walk around the neighborhood. Gallery.
January 20, 2007 I will never forget this day - a winter ascent of Mt. Washington. We made it within a few hundred feet of the summit, but had to turn back due to weather and, in my case, exhaustion. Mt. Washington is notorious for its bad weather. It didn't disappoint; -15F, 80mph gusts, -50F wind chill. Exhilirating brutally exhausting day. My camera froze pretty early in the day - not that I was going to risk frostbite trying to snap any pictures above treeline. This climb was more about survival. I have been itching to get back into winter mountaineering, and this trip was just what I needed. I traveled with a great group of folks that my colleague Todd B introduced me to. The leader of the trip, Roy H. Smith, is a truly inspirational gentleman, and it was a true pleasure sharing time on the mountain with him and the rest of the group. Would I ever do this again? Absolutely, Next year's date is already set - MLK Day weekend 2009. I'm in. Some pix from the weekend on Todd B.'s site.
*Mt. Washington is a serious mountain and things can go wrong quickly even for the best climbers. Exposure, whiteout conditions, and avalanches are just a few of the dangers. Unfortunately, I learned after returning that a climber was lost on the mountain over the weekend. January 18, 2008 Commute

January 1, 2008 Day spent with friends and pork rolls and Windmill fries. Couldn't have been any better.
December 11, 2007 Santacon is the greatest day of the year. 'Nuff said. Ho. Gallery.
November 28, 2007 It has been a while. After the Canada road trip I started a new job in August. I have been very, very busy. So, when Sam asked me to fly down to Honduras and help him drive his car back to the USA, I thought there was absolutely no way I could pull it off. But, thanks to an understanding boss (thanks, TF) a few days later, and just two days after moving to a new apartment, I was on a plane south. One of the fastest, literally, journeys ever. Here are the press releases (PDF) courtesy of Sam. And the pictures - the majority of which were taken from the passenger seat of a Honda Pilot (love that car), at border crossings, and gas stations. A road-trip for the ages: Honduras to Houston in a blur.
